Shower Curtain Chronicles: Otto Campaign Treatens Suit

Shower Curtain Chronicles

Latex painted shower curtains make great, cheap, waterproof banners to display at demonstrations, over freeways or anyplace you want to take it to the anti-gay, anti-Constitution fascists. This blog will feature banners I've made over the years, commentary on the outrages du jour, general observations and accounts of the latest actions by our blog troop as we wield the bathroom accessory cum political billboard.

Otto Campaign Treatens Suit

On Thursday I reported a quote from David Strand of Minnesota Lavender Greens stating that Rebecca Otto had indicated support for the anti-gay marriage amendment in a candidate survey of the Minnesota Family Institute. Since then, the Otto campaign has called David Strand and threatened to sue him, claiming that Otto did not take the MFI survey. Of course, they didn't bother checking the MFI's voter guide, they simply went after the messenger with their guns blazing. If they had taken the trouble to simply go the the MFI Voter Guide site (linked below) they would have seen the source of the information cited by Strand. It's right there in black and white. Otto answers "YES" to the following statement: Minnesota Marriage Amendment- Do you support passage of a state constitutional amendment recognizing marriage or its equivalent as only a union between one man and one woman? There are also answers indicated from Otto on two more questions in the voter guide.

But if the MFI is at fault, don't expect Otto to go after the them the way she's going after Strand. She wouldn't want to alienate all the bigot friends she's made there by having voted for the anti-gay marriage amendment. No. It's far more expedient (not to mention familiar) to just beat up on the queer.

Yeah but if you read it it doesn't say Otto answered the MFI survey, it says this information is compiled from whatever they want. So they're trying to manipulate you and shave off progressive votes from her to get Pat Anderson back in because the margin's so slim. And Otto got the same 100% score on the Out Front survey as all the Greens, so that means something. And the only way the Otto campaign could sue Strand is if he was lying. Publishing something that says she filled out a survey when she didn't sounds kind of like a good reason.

Ok Anonymous. You win! The organization's PUBLISHED VOTER GUIDE is not an adequate source of information to report on. Strand should have hired a private investigator. And you're right, the Greens AND the Republicans are conspiring to manipulate me into shaving. Gotta run, hear black helicopters approaching.
